Since 2010, over 5 million young adults have started apprenticeships in the UK. At Albert Jagger, we recognise the importance of providing opportunities that allow students to gain practical skills and hands-on experience in the workplace.
A recent government study found that 85% of apprentices remain in full-time employment after completing their apprenticeship. (Source: StandOut CV)
Lewis Shinton was recently offered a permanent position with Albert Jagger Engineering after completing his Level 3 Toolmaker and Tool and Die Maintenance Technician apprenticeship.
Originally hired by Prestwood Engineering, which became part of Albert Jagger following its acquisition in 2016 and merger with Albert Jagger Engineering in 2022, Lewis has officially completed his apprenticeship, after four years of training.
“Toolmaking always stood out to me because I’ve been fascinated by the precision and problem-solving involved. The apprenticeship has given me the chance to learn new technologies and gain new skills that will help me in the industry.”
Since beginning his apprenticeship in March 2021, Lewis has worked on various projects while attending In-Comm Training, the West Midlands’ leading employer-led training provider.
As a qualified toolmaker, he has developed a broad range of skills, knowledge and behaviours across multiple engineering disciplines.
Lewis is skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and technical instructions, operating hand tools, machines and automated computer-controlled machinery, and measuring, testing, and adjusting systems to ensure tooling, jigs, fixtures, and assemblies meet the required specifications.
Beyond his studies, Lewis has expanded his capabilities through CAD software design and robotic welding training to further enhance his contribution to the team.
“Lewis has shown great work ethic and skill throughout his apprenticeship. The quality of his work is exceptional, and he’s become a valuable addition to the team. He has taken on new roles and responsibility supporting other departments within Albert Jagger and completed them with an excellent level of quality. I’m confident that he has a bright future ahead.” - Andrew Powis, Group Quality Manager
Albert Jagger is proud to support apprenticeships and provide opportunities for young adults to gain valuable work experience. These apprentices are the future, and we are excited to see Lewis continue to grow in his career. We are thrilled to have him as part of the team and are optimistic about his future.
